I would be surprised if they stopped SKC this week. Meza clearly has the ability to be the defensive general, but I am staying away from this whole defense this week.
Orlando City should be an easier opponent in theory, but they have a knack for scoring random goals. Not the worst look for a defender, but it is a shame they are on the road for this one.
The Rapids get one of the worst teams in the league this week in the Whitecaps, and Colorado has serious clean sheet appeal. Rosenberry will contend with Adnan, but could capitalize in the attack.
The single best shout for a clean sheet, Columbus’ strong defenses gets to host RSL who have only managed one goal so far. Take at least one player from this backline, but Vanenzuela needs to be monitored as he was taken off midway through the last game for precautionary measures after taking a hit to his knee.
They do play FCC, but this opponent looks at lot better than they are getting credit for. DC will also be without Mora, so their fullback game will be very weak.
They face a DC team that is missing Ola Kamara, and that makes FCC a sneaky option for a clean sheet shout. Keep them in mind if you are looking for someone, but as always; tamper your expectations.
NYCFC is not who you want to play despite their poor form right now. If this game was in Dallas it would be a different story, but almost no team ever keeps a clean sheet going to Yankee Stadium. They are also without Reggie Cannon. Stay away.
After getting destroyed last week, they must host Seattle’s elite team. Do not take ANY Houston defenders. They cannot hold a clean sheet.
The Galaxy are struggling all around right now, so taking someone like Ben Sweat is not a bad idea. Keep in mind that Torres is suspended, so there may be some miscommunications with an adjusted back line.
This defense is pretty bad still, but Miami has only managed a single goal. I would not consider a Galaxy defender, but they aren’t the worst option out there.
Minnesota gets to come home after two road wins, and will host NYRB. This opponent has a major weakness at the 9, but can still score with ease. It will be a tough one, but Minnesota are a top 7 option this week in my opinion.
This is a strong defensive team, but heading to Toronto they should not be expected to hold a clean sheet. Avoid them for this week, but if you cannot stay away take Zimmerman.
New England Revolution
Portland looks rough right now, so this may be one of the few games in which their defense can be an option. Still, Portland has too many weapons right now for this to be a strong play.
Dallas has looked very good, but NYCFC is a top-5 defense this week as they get to host in Yankee Stadium. However, they will be dealing with CCL this week so check the lineups.
Minnesota is the hottest team in the league right now, and their home opener should see them scoring in bunches. There is no reason to take a red bulls player.
Orlando City SC
Chicago are not a bad team right now, but Orlando does not have their A-team at this point. They should keep improving and could definitely hold Chicago scoreless, but they aren’t a no brainer pick by any means. Chicago should have Gimenez this week as well.
I would not count on this team to keep a clean sheet against the width coming at them from SJ. I am staying far away, and am not counting on Glesnes to hit another 40 yarder.
If Gil plays, the Revs will score. Portland’s defense managed a clean sheet, but they do not look good on that end. Heading to Foxborough is not the best news for them either. The Revs look good in the attack.
Real Salt Lake
This could be a 0-0 game. Columbus’ defense is great, but their offense is lacking slightly. RSL could definitely keep a clean sheet, so consider them. Glad and Herrera are unavailable for Olympic qualifiers, so it will be an adjusted back line.
San Jose Earthquakes
That was a poor performance even though Minnesota went off. Philly can definitely score, but will have to make an adjustment as Aaronson will be unavailable.
This defense should keep getting better, but are slightly shaky right now. They do play an awful Houston team that just got shut out, so consider Leerdam or Arreagha in this one.
Sporting Kansas City
SKC managed to shut down Houston, but should struggle against Atlanta. If this game was in KC I would consider these defenders, but you can’t keep a clean sheet in Mercedes-Benz. Stay away.
Top-3 defense this week. Nashville has to score eventually, but just looks poor on offense. Strongly consider the TFC back line.
Well it was surprising, but they shut LA down last week. Colorado looks like a good team, but I wouldn’t judge anyone for grabbing Adnan.
